Our employees are our greatest asset and, with a team spirit, we provide our customers with the service they have come to expect.
After working with his uncle who owned MacLean Industrial in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Oren MacLean moved with his family to Sussex, NB in January 1985 and started Ormac Industrial Supply Inc. Since inception, Ormac has grown from two employees with one situated behind a makeshift desk, and one with a handful of quarters for roadside phones, to a small-sized business with 20 employees.
As we celebrate over 30 years of operation we are reminded of the changes that time has brought: new avenues of business, new technologies, new territories, new friends and lots of memories. Here at Ormac we are pleased and proud to have minimal staff change which we believe is integral to our knowledge base and customer service. Just as important as our staff, are the customers that have been loyal to us since the beginning, and we would like to thank each and every one.
After leaving high school, Oren worked for a service station in his home town of Whycocomagh, Nova Scotia. Soon after graduating, Oren took a job as a management trainee with F.W. Woolworths in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, and then relocated to Halifax. He then spent 18 months in Newfoundland and Labrador in both Labrador City and Cornerbrook. Upon returning to Cape Breton, Oren worked with his uncle, Kenny MacLean, then owner of MacLean Industrial in Sydney, Nova Scotia for a year before moving to the company's Saint John, New Brunswick branch in 1976.
It was in Saint John, working for MacLean Industrial under the tutelage of his uncle, that Oren credits the beginning of his knowledge in the industry. Being able to manage a company and observe his uncle and his peers, he learned the important lessons of having strong customer relations.
In January 1985, Oren and his family moved to Sussex to start his own business, Ormac Industrial Supply, Inc. Located centrally in the Maritimes makes Sussex the ideal location to serve customers in Atlantic Canada. As the saying goes, the rest is history.
